New Mitsubishi EV Concept Might be a New Montero

The Mitsubishi brand has been making the Outlander PHEV for a few years now, but they’ve recently begun expanding the PHEV lineup. In fact, an all-new Mitsubishi EV Concept recently appeared at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, and it’s a concept that will soon make it to the United States as a production vehicle. The new concept is the GC-PHEV, which stands for Grand Cruiser Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle.

The GC-PHEV looks like it might be a replacement for the discontinued Mitsubishi Montero. The Montero and Montero Sport were very popular and sold very well, but now the GC-PHEV might take its place. It will come with a supercharged V-6 engine, an electric motor and lithium ion battery, and even an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Mitsubishi is already experiencing a sales surge here in the United States, and a boosted PHEV lineup should only help that trend continues. The GC-PHEV will come with all kinds of safety technology as well, from the “Next-Generation Driver Safety Support System (DSSS)” to the forward collision mitigation system. New Mitsubishi Plug-In Hybrid to Debut at 2015 Geneva Motor Show

The Mitsubishi brand is diving further into the EV pool, the definite wave of the future. They’ve created a new plug-in hybrid crossover vehicle, which will make its debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. And soon after that, we’ll see this new (and as yet unnamed) plug-in hybrid crossover hit the US market, as well.

Mitsubishi already has the Outlander PHEV out on the roads in Europe, so they’ll be expanding their lineup of EV crossovers very soon. We know very little about the new plug-in hybrid so far, but we’re giving it the benefit of the doubt based on all of our great years of experience with Mitsubishi vehicles. The brand calls the new concept “a powerful embodiment of its next generation 2WD plug-in hybrid electric (‘PHEV’) technology as well as its bold design renaissance, all contained in Mitsubishi Motors’ favorite format of the SUV crossover.”

There’s even more good news for US Mitsubishi drivers, though. The Outlander PHEV will be making its US debut in the second quarter of 2016, which we are now anxiously awaiting the arrival of. The Outlander will arrive as a 2017 model, and hopefully this new concept will follow as a production model soon after. Come see us at Mountaineer Mitsubishi today to learn more.

New Concept Ups the Outlander PHEV’s Visual Appeal at Paris Motor Show

Paris Motor Show

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is one of the coolest vehicles we’ve seen at Mountaineer Mitsubishi. It’s a 2.0-liter four-cylinder hooked up to an electric motor and Twin Motor 4WD system for enhanced power and drivability.

It perhaps hasn’t caught on as well as Mitsubishi would have liked, but that all changed at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, when the automaker revealed the new Outlander PHEV Concept-S, which adds massive improvements to the compact SUV.

The update includes a new front-end design, which now features bold chromed accent moldings on either side of the badge and wraparound headlamps. Inside, black wood grain trim with silver accent and soft, hand-stitched fine leather just beckon you to stay.

Under the hood, the new concept is more or less the same, though we would argue Mitsu doesn’t need to fix or change something that is far from broken. But thanks to a redesigned image, however, the Outlander PHEV finally looks the part.
