There won’t be any new Mitsubishi i-MiEV models added to our lineup at Mountaineer Mitsubishi in the coming years, but that’s because we’ll be getting even better hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles to replace it.
In addition to cutting the i-MiEV, Mitsubishi is expected to launch a coupe-like CUV with a plug-in hybrid option sometime after autumn of 2017, according to Automotive News. After 2017 will come a new Outlander PHEV and, in 2019, a next-gen Outlander Sport with an EV trim will be introduced to the lineup.
“We are strong in SUVs and four-wheel drives. And that is what we would like to focus on as core models in the US market,” said Mitsubishi CEO Osamu Masuko.
In all, Mitsubishi will offer gasoline and electrified variants for a lineup of three sizes of crossovers, and we’ve already seen what the next-gen CUV design language will look like with the eX Concept that was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show. Looks promising, if you ask us!by
